We're putting a lot of thought and care into the first-time user experience. One of the ways we're making Statamic easier to learn is by replacing long configuration forms full of text and select box inputs with guided wizards. 🧙
Let's take a look at the new Collection Creator wizard. By breaking up form into multiple steps, we can adjust each subsequent step to only contain relevant settings, reducing complexity and increasing understanding.
Wizards are a new type of Vue component you'll be able to take advantage of in your own addons.
If you're paying attention, you may notice some new features in these screenshots. A number of new settings are now stored on the Collection level. These settings together to define the default/automatic behaviors for the front-end of your site.
For example, in addition to the "order" type (date, numeric, or alphabetical), you can now choose whether a date-based collection can be scheduled (published at a future date), expired (unpublished after a specific date), and so on.
You no longer need to remember to add
show_future="true" and sorting parameters everywhere you pull data onto a page. This reduces friction, improves consistency, and helps create tighter, more consistent content models.
