It's time for another milestone update! We've been working on last few large items (Taxonomies and Secret Features 1 and 2), and because there isn't anything new to cast your eyeballs upon, I decided to give an update on our overall progress towards Open Beta and, of course, final 3.0 launch. Let's go right to the Alpha 2 progress meter.
The purple "in progress" bit represents 3 Github issues. We're very close to being able to invite our first group of Alpha testers willing to provide valuable feedback.
First of all, we need to be clear what the purpose of the Alpha test phase is for. It is not to just kick the tires and see what Statamic 3 is capable of (although you will be able to do that to some degree). If you've never used Statamic before, the Alpha is not for you. Waiting for the beta will be way more rewarding.
The Alpha will not be feature complete, but will essentially be pattern and convention complete, which will allow teams with large sites, addon developers, and other special interest groups to have an opportunity to provide feedback, play "Devil's Advocate" regarding these decisions, breaking changes, naming mechanisms, and other aspects of the application.
This is an opportunity to influence things before they're set in stone, We need those providing this valuable feedback to be seriously invested in Statamic's future.
This phase will also let us work out some of the inevitable "first run" kinks and documentation to help the Open Beta go smoother.
So if you think being Alpha tester might be for you, please visit the link above ☝, fill out the form, make your case, and we'll be in touch with more information and next steps soon!
